Jahson Tehuti

Diversity and Anti-Discrimination

Jahson The Scientist is a “wordsman” has been described as a Spoken Word Artist, eMCee and anything in-between. Raised in both London and Montserrat (Caribbean), The Caribbean introduced him to freestyling and writing rhymes and London deepened his connection to music by crate digging for vinyl, becoming a DJ and being part of MC and DJ collectives.

Today as a lyricist his music is centred in Hip Hop with influences of Afro-beat, Jazz and Soul. The Scientist often gives the listener a view through the keyhole on “black” matters, the riddle of Adam from atoms, culture, science and spirit.

As a versatile performer he can be found on stage with a clarinet quartet or 16 piece band, solo or otherwise. A true live artist who lives every moment onstage, The Scientist is known for his ability to create songs in the moment, his use of word-play and ability to inspire.  Audiences from London to Den Hague, Marseilles to Taiwan have witnessed his performances which combine live instrumentation with samples/beats or just the naked word.

Performances moved from his own band at school to Festivals like DonauInselfest, Reeperbahn, Popfest, Bevridigungsfestival, Impulstanz, Soundframe, and Waves. Other performances include FM4’s Session alongside The Ruff PackOe1 with Sketches and support for The Roots, Inner Circle and GZA amongst others.

Jahson was named Star of The Week for his No Doubt EP, rounded up in the Best of 2016   with his trio Scattah Brain, and in 2021 Sketches found themselves No.1 for 3 weeks on Austria’s Indie Charts. His first release was with Psychic Phenomena on their Slipstream EP, which won 2 UK Hip Hop Awards, and more recently on FM4’s Tribe Vibes Exclusives Album (Sony Music Austria), SK Invitational’s Golden Crown (Kopfhörer/Groove Attack).

Amongst forthcoming features Jahson is currently working on projects such as Earth Tone Poems, Black Seeds and other material which will be released on his label 9Star Records.
